I'm a huge metal and rock fan but I'm also very religious because I say my prayers every night, go to mass every week, and carry rosary beads with me and even bless myself when I'm passing a church. But I'm worried that is it a sin to listen to rock or metal music? I mean I was listening to a metal song by Motorhead called God was never On Your Side and other ones by them called Bad Religion, Don't Need Religion and Time is Right (which was about God not caring).
The message behind the music isn't always relevant. I don't agree with every single lyric written by every single band I listen to, so no it's not really a sin. Even then, there are plenty of bands with religious/Christian messages: trouble, Mortification, Stryper, even Black Sabbath wrote from a Christian perspective on "Master Of Reality". the "Satanic" metal band Mercyful Fate featured a Christian band with a devout Satanist as the singer/chief lyricist. Slayer sang of blasphemies even though their vocalist is Catholic. in Tom Araya's words, "if these lyrics make people happy, then I have done a Christian thing", which cracks me up.
Look, metal bands with Satanic themes are akin to professional wrestlers taking on characters or roles. sure, most of the time there is some underlying feeling of disgust, but I wouldn't take every word or gesture so seriously.
Jesus died for his own sins, not mine
No it's NOT a sin.
I'm Christian and listen to Death Metal & Deathcore.
I'm always a follower of Jesus, but it's not a sin. It's just music. There isn't a commandment saying "shall not listen to rock music". You can listen to anything you want. That's the freedom of music. and rock/heavy metal music isn't the worst music out there. That's pretty mellow.
No, I go to church every week and listen to Gorgoroth and other Black Metal bands
And if you want some Christian bands
Skillet
UnderOath
Thousand Foot Krutch
Red
Styrper
Haste the Day
Burden of a Day
August Burns Red
don't be to intend with the religious obligations
instead let your actions show your faith
I would find rock/heavy metal music that portray a Christian message. There are probably a few bands out there.
God invented us to make music, so why the hell not? anyway, blame the sin not the sinner, so you're good.
Music is awesome I don't care what kind of music it is in my ipod I have all genres of music from country to metal even some christian rock. my 11 year old likes Marilyn Manson and system of a down, but she also has some Justin Beiber. Music is what you make of it, it makes me smile when I hear a happy song or if I'm having a bad day I like to just put on my head phones and listen to some good hard core music.
No I don't see how listening to something is a sin….as long as you don't start drawing upside down pentagrams on your wall because of it
Rock/Metal music has no evil in it. if you say it's a sin to listen to rock/metal then you also have have to say Rap is sin too
dude u listin 2 it i listin 2 it. if were going to hell there better b a better reason.
Nah it isn't a sin, don't get too worried about it. Cause if it was a lightning bolt would've struck me by now. I'm Christian and I listen to all sorts of music like deathcore, screamo, metalcore, etc. and I even do screamo so if listening was a sin then I don't even wanna know what would happen to me for screaming:P
Just listen to what you want!
I listen to stuff like Korn, my chemical Romance, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, NOFX,Black Veil Brides and that's not exactly in the Metal section, but I'm a good Christian and tend not to follow the footsteps that are suggested in some of the songs' lyrics :D if you like what you're listening to and if it makes you happy…just do it :D
I LIKE BLACK SABBATH AND OZZIE OSBOURNE! DOES THIS MEAN IAM GOING TO HELL? NOT!
Cliff stabler no longer has any right to comment on anything pertaining to metal music due to the fact that he spelled OZZY'S name wrong…
Nope cause you're not letting the music change your ways for the worse
Yes it is a sin and you are going to HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is a question for yourself only. What kind of spirit do you feel when listening to Rock music? is it uplifting? I personally listen to some heavy stuff from time to time when I need a break from life, but I never mix spiritual things with the things of God. I guess my answer is no, but don't listen to it on Sunday!
Yeah. You're going to hell. HAAAAYEEELL!!!!
