February 12 2010: This auspicious day is celebrated as Shivaratri on the night of amavasya in the month of Phalgun (Feb-Mar 2010).
Ratri refers to night and Shivaratri refers to night dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva.
Devotees stay awake for the whole night and perform the Nangu kala puja. Special Yagnas will be done in the morning at the shiva temples.
First Kala puja starts at 8PM in the night continues the second at 10:30 PM, third kala puja at 1.30AM in the early morning and the fourth kala puja at round 4AM in the early morning.
Special Abshekam with water, Milk, Curd, Panchamirtham, Panchakavi, Tender coconut, honey, paneer, Sandal, thiruneer, etc..
