Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday proposed to enhance the income tax exemption limit to Rs.1.8 lakh (Rs.180,000 or $4,000) for the next financial year, from Rs.1.6 lakh now.

While proposing to raise the income tax limit to Rs 1.80 lakh for general tax payers and Rs 2.5 lakh for senior citizens, the Minister in his budget proposals for 2011-12 has lowered the age for senior citizens to 60 years from 65 years now.

Besides, a new category of "very senior" citizens of 80 years and above has been introduced with no tax on their income upto Rs five lakh.

For general tax payers, the measure will result in "a uniform tax relief of Rs 2,000", Mukherjee said.

Senior citizens will get tax exemption for income up to Rs 2.5 lakh, higher from Rs 2.4 lakh now.

Introducing a new tax slab for very senior citizens (80 years and above), Mukherjee said, they will not have to pay any tax for annual income up to Rs 5 lakh.

However, income of very senior citizens between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh will attract a tax of 20 per cent and above Rs 8 lakh 30 per cent.

The general tax payers will have to pay 10 per cent tax on income between Rs 1.8 lakh and Rs 5 lakh; 20 per cent between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh; and 30 per cent on income above Rs 8 lakh.

The exemption limit for women tax payers will be Rs 1.9 lakh. They will have to pay 10 per cent tax on income between Rs 1.9 lakh and Rs 5 lakh; 20 per cent between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh; and 30 per cent for income above Rs 8 lakh.

In case of senior citizens (between 60 and 80 years), the exemption limit has been raised to Rs 2.5 lakh from Rs 2.4 lakh. They will have to pay 10 per cent on income between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh; 20 per cent between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh; and 30 per cent on income above Rs 8 lakh.

For very senior citizens (80 years and above), there will be no tax on income up to Rs 5 lakh. They will have to pay 20 per cent on income between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh and 30 per cent above Rs 8 lakh.

Union Budget 2011 Service Tax, Seeks To Ease India Tax Burden, Air Travel To Become Costlier | Budget 2011: Air travel, eating out become dearer | Union Budget 2011: High service tax on life policy | Union Budget 2011: Service tax stays at 10% | Budget 2011: Hospital chains upset over service tax proposal | Union Budget 2011: Airlines to pass on service tax increase and Exemptions |

Air travel is to become costlier with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee increasing service tax on air travel in the federal budget for 2011-12 Monday.

Mukherjee said service tax levy would go up by Rs.50 on domestic travel while it would be increased by Rs.250 on international travel in economy class.

In July last year, the ministry had put a cap on service tax in case of domestic flights at 10 percent of the gross (total) value of the ticket, or Rs.100 per travel, whichever is less, and 10 percent of the gross value of the ticket, or Rs.500 on international travel by economy class.

Mukherjee said incomes below 180,000 rupees won’t be taxed from the next financial year, increasing the threshold from 160,000 rupees. He also announced a 1 percent interest-rate subsidy for housing loans of up to 1.5 million rupees.

The finance ministry estimates that India produces about 10 percent less electricity than it needs, and roads, which handle 65 percent of the nation’s cargo, are plagued by single lanes and irregular surfaces, boosting the cost of goods and services.

To ease infrastructure bottlenecks and reduce inflationary pressures, India plans to spend 23 percent more on roads, ports and power and increase the limit for foreign institutional investment in infrastructure bonds to $25 billion from $5 billion, Mukherjee said.

India will also allow companies to issue tax-free bonds worth 300 billion rupees to finance infrastructure projects, the minister said.
Food Storage

The country will build capacity to store 4 million metric tons of food grain by March 31, 2012, Mukherjee said, to help boost farm supplies and drive down food prices. The minister said he has directed commercial banks to step up loans to farmers by 27 percent to 4.75 trillion rupees.

Singapore plans to spend S$6.6 billion ($5.2 billion) on benefits including tax cuts and rebates, the government said on Feb. 18. In Hong Kong, relief measures announced this month to help residents cope with inflation included an electricity subsidy and a waiver of property rates.

Mukherjee has room to maneuver in next year’s budget because less bonds are due for repayment and the government in May earned 677.2 billion rupees from the sale of third- generation phone licenses to companies including Vodafone Group Plc, more than the budgeted 350 billion rupees.

The government needs to repay 741.3 billion rupees in the coming fiscal year, compared with 1.12 trillion rupees in the 12 months through March, according to the finance ministry.
Asset Sales

India aims to raise 400 billion rupees from the sale of stakes in state-run companies, Mukherjee said. Proposed sales of stakes in Indian Oil Corp., the country’s biggest refiner, and Steel Authority of India Ltd., its second-largest producer of the alloy, may help raise about 104 billion rupees next fiscal year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Tax revenue is also getting a fillip as economic growth accelerates. Gross collections may rise 25 percent to 9.32 trillion rupees in the financial year starting April 1, Mukherjee estimated.

India will maintain the excise tax rate at 10 percent, refraining from raising the levy to the 12 percent level that existed before the global financial crisis to help boost investment, the minister said.

He said the government plans to increase the service tax on air travel and will extend the levy to include new businesses such as air-conditioned hospitals.

India’s $1.3 trillion economy may expand by as much as 9.25 percent in the next financial year, the fastest pace since 2008, the annual Economic Survey prepared by advisers to Mukherjee said on Feb. 25.

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India. It is one of the most recognizable structures in the world. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is widely considered as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and stands as a symbol of eternal love.

Taj Mahal is the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Islamic and Indian architectural styles.

In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen.

The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision, including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer.

This historical summary of the Taj-Mahal story must be regarded with scepticism. It is highly probable that it is somewhat inaccurate and possible that it is totally misleading. For example,a certain Professor Oak (in his book "The Taj Mahal: The True Story") puts forward persuasive evidence, observations and interpretation that suggest the monument was originally a Hindu temple, palace of Tejo Mahalaya (Shiva), built long before the Shah Jahan came to power and that it was taken over by Jahan and 'developed' into, approximately, what we see today. Allegedly, Indira Gandhi's government tried to ban this book and some would say the Indian government has been politically motivated in suppressing this theory. Certainly the Taj Mahal is a great tourist money spinner with its present dramatic and romantic aura: the asset value might be greatly diminished if Oak's alternative account is correct. Furthermore, it is argued, publicising this 'true story' might alienate a substantial tranche of the electorate: the Muslims. There are chambers in the monument which, it seems, have remained unopened since Shah Jahan's time and which the professor believes could provide evidence to prove the account one way or another. Allegedly the Indian government will not allow an independent investigation within these chambers, and if that is the case it raises suspicions as to their motives. You must form your own opinion.

Taj Mahal

We are academic engineers, better at producing summaries and reports than historical research so what is offered here is a light hearted summary based on variants of the traditional story, inspired by our own encounter in 1976. It may be that we are describing a myth but it still makes a beautiful 'tale'.

The Tale:

The Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India must be one of the most magnificent and wondrous monuments created by man. We have been there and regard it as literally breathtaking, being the most beautiful, astonishing and inspiring sights that we have had the privilege of beholding. The focal point of the monument is constructed in white marble extravagantly inlaid with semi-precious stones and with calligraphed verses from the Quran (Koran). Major parts of the surrounding construction are built from sandstone, distinctively coloured red, in keeping with many other notable buildings of the district and period.

The architectural style is Persian but possibly surpasses any other of similar style at any time, in any part of the world, displaying an incredible intricacy of form and decoration throughout its huge entirety. It has become quite understandably a major tourist attraction and the area caters for international sight-seeing visitors with travel facilities, accommodation and formal tours. Yet none of this commercialisation detracts from the impressive spectacle. That summarises what the Taj Mahal is, but lets move on to recount why its there and how it became so exceptional.

The Taj' had its origins, so it is said, with one of the most romantic, but tragic, love stories of all times. It is surprising that the largely Hindu population perpetuates the romantic view (our experience indicated quite strongly that they do) since the hero and heroine are Muslims, the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Mughals (or Mongols) were historically cruel, ruthless rulers who, amongst many other radical activities, discriminated against and alienated the Hindus [did someone say that about the British too?]. Shah Jahan means King of the world and Mumtaz means the chosen one.

The Taj Mahal incorporates and expands on design traditions of Persian architecture and earlier Mughal architecture. Specific inspiration came from successful Timurid and Mughal buildings including; the Gur-e Amir (the tomb of Timur, progenitor of the Mughal dynasty, in Samarkand), Humayun's Tomb, Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb (sometimes called the Baby Taj), and Shah Jahan's own Jama Masjid in Delhi. While earlier Mughal buildings were primarily constructed of red sandstone, Shah Jahan promoted the use of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones, and buildings under his patronage reached new levels of refinement

Past records might suggest Pakistan have an edge – they have beaten Sri Lanka in each of their six encounters in the World Cups and have won their previous five games at the R Premadasa – but that will count for little. The two sides have not faced each other in cricket’s showpiece tournament since 1992, and the Premadasa has undergone extensive redevelopment. What will help Pakistan, though, is the relative lack of controversy surrounding the current team, a low-profile lead-up and the confidence of a recent series win, in New Zealand, behind them.

Sri Lanka’s advantage is that most of their players have had a taste of how the new track will fare during the domestic limited-over tournament held in January. Traditionally, this has been a bat-first venue, especially in day-night games where the team chasing has won only one of the past 13 matches, but it remains to be seen how the re-laid pitch fares .

Records will Broken in this Match:
1) Muttiah Muralitharan needs one more wicket to move past Wasim Akram’s tally of 55 wickets to become the second highest wicket-taker in World Cups.

2) Sri Lanka have never beaten Pakistan in six World Cup matches, though the two haven’t met in the competition since 1992.

3) One more stumping will take Skipper Kumara Sangakkara’s tally to eight, moving ahead of Adam Gilchrist and Moin Khan, with whom he current shares the record for most stumpings.

4) This is Afridi’s fourth World Cup, but he is yet to make a half-century.

Probable Teams:

Pakistan (probable): 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Ahmed Shehzad, 3 Kamran Akmal (wk), 4 Younis Khan, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi (capt), 8 Abdul Razzaq, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Abdur Rehman, 11 Shoaib Akhtar

Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Upul Tharanga, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt & wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Chamara Kapugedera, 6 Thilan Samaraweera, 7 Angelo Mathews, 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Muttiah Muralitharan

Group A Match

Sri Lanka versus Pakistan

Venue: R Premdasa Stadium, Colombo

Start Time: 14:30 (IST)

Super Saturday: Asian giants play each other

The Saturday’s crucial encounter will involve a side that exhibits disciplined work ethics and stresses more on performance part of it then frenzy part of it and another, if it is their day, as dynamic as any side in the world can be.

Colombo’s R Premdasa Stadium with stands jam packed will witness a contest between two Asian giants, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, with both sides coming into this game scoring a comfortable win over weaker opponents.

While home side trounced Canada, Pakistan had an easy time against feeble Kenya to give both sides the start they would have wanted to begin their world cup campaign.

But both sides will know that a good performance against top team is what counts. Looking at the composition of both teams guarantees a thriller of a tie. It, however, will be Sri Lankan team that enters the match as favourites because of the home advantage, crowd backing them and settled one day unit.

Pakistan, on other hand, is team that is improving by everyday and would like to emerge victorious to make a strong statement to their opponents.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan side offers almost everything- explosiveness, experience and depth in batting and class and variety in bowling and best fielding side amongst Asian teams.

Dilshan, at the top, always is a treat to watch. He would like to put the pressure on the Pakistan’s opening bowlers from the word go and his partner Tharanga will be rotating strike constantly to his aggressive partner face majority of deliveries.

Then the fulcrum of Lankan batting-Jayewardene and Sangakara- both would want to bat most of the overs in their pursuit to post big scores on the board.

Late order batting is also in safe hands with Samarweera ready to ward off any batting collapse and Kapudegera and Mathews to give late order charge to the innings.

In bowling Sri Lanka isn’t far behind to best bowling attacks in the world. Lasith Malinga’s pace, control over his variations, ability to bowl yorkers and taking wickets at regular intervals make him a lethal weapon. He missed the Canada tie though and it will be interesting whether team management draft him in the playing eleven.

Kulasekra’s tidy seamers, Fernando’s experience and Matthew’s medium pace adds to the variety.

Spin bowling is one department where Srilanka is best in the business. Murli will be dangerous as always to keep strong middle order under check.

Sri Lanka might be tempted to bring in left arm spinner Rangana Herath for Pakistan have played Mendis better than any side in the world.

Squad: Kumar Sangakara Capt & Wkt), Mahela Jayewardene, Tilkeratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Angelo Mathews, Chamara Kapudegera, Chamara Silva, Thisara Perrera, Muthaih Murlitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekra, Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga

Coach: Trevor Bayliss

 Pakistan

Pakistan have made all the right noises since landing in Sri Lanka. Team looks focused, united and keen to do well after all the bad things that have gripped Pakistan cricket last year.

With strong team in Sri Lanka as their opponents, Saturday game is going to be tough one.

Against Kenya Pakistan openers started slowly and got out after consuming a fair number of deliveries. That didn’t please their captain as he wants a little bit of aggression from them. How will they respond to their captain’s call remains to be same?

Pakistan will again be banking on their middle order to score runs and it has men to do so. Four of them scored half-centuries against Kenya to give Pakistan a 300 plus score.

Younis and Misbah, who is in form of his life, supplement much needed calmness and stability to the batting line-up.

It was aggressive innings of younger Akmal; Umar that Pakistan management will be most pleased with.

Lower order hitting of Razzaq and Afridi is where Pakistan strength lies. If openers and middle order batters provide the platform to the duo, the fans are in for special treat and Sri Lanka in trouble.

In bowling Pakistan might bring Wahab Riaz back into the side to partner Shoab Akhter but it will be interesting to see who will make way for him.

Skipper Afridi picked up five wickets against Kenya and would like continue with his good form against the good players of spin that Lankan team possesses.

Squad:Shahid Afridi (Capt), Misbah-ul-Haq, Ahmad Shahzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Abdur Razzaq, Kamran Akmal, Syed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Shoab Akhter and Umar Gul

Coach: Waqar Younis

A collision involving a motorcycle and three buses in the Lincoln Tunnel on Thursday injured dozens of people and caused long delays for commuters heading into New York City, officials said.

Port Authority spokeswoman Jennifer Friedberg says the crash happened around 7:25 a.m., about three-quarters of the way toward Manhattan in the tunnel that connects New Jersey and New York City. The accident is under investigation.

The New York City Fire Department says the motorcycle rider was taken to Bellevue Hospital in very bad shape. The FDNY says there are also about 30 other injuries, but none are life-threatening. About half the injured were sent to hospitals.

Port Authority police are having traffic behind the crash site back up to the New Jersey side of the tunnel.

There are extensive traffic delays because only two lanes are open.

Ricky Ponting, Australian team captain, the captain of World Cup holders, is facing a charge for allegedly damaging a television set in the dressing room after he was dismissed during his side's victory over Zimbabwe.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) told Reuters on Wednesday that it had received a report on the incident from the BCCI after it was sent to them by the Gujarat Cricket Association which oversees the sport in Ahmedabad where Monday's game took place.

"We expect to make a decision later on Wednesday about possible charges," ICC spokesman James Fitzgerald said.

On Monday, Ponting was run out by a direct hit from the deep by Zimbabwe's Chris Mpofu in the Group A clash between the two teams.

An agitated Ponting was seen talking angrily to himself as he walked back to the dressing room and, in a state of fury, threw his gear, which accidentally hit the LCD monitor.

Ponting, Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) officials claimed, immediately apologised and requested the authorities for a replacement, said the Australian team's media manager Lachy Paterson.

India Batting :  370/4 (50) Run Rate: 7.4

Virender Sehwag 175 (140 balls )

A tired Sehwag departs! A scintillating knock comes to an end. 175 off just 140 balls. He raises his bat while returning back as the Bangladeshi crowd applauds his effort. Fullish delivery outside off, he just plays it back onto his stumps off the inside edge. Kohli makes it a point to pat his Delhi team-mates back. Brilliant innings!

Sachin Tendulkar 28 (29 balls)

That is disaster for India! The Mirpur crowd is up on their feet, seeing the Little Master walk back. Tendulkar just plays it towards mid-wicket and charges to the opposite end, Sehwag is ball-watching and doesn’t even move. Both the openers are stranded at the same end and the bails are off. Tendulkar doesn’t even bother watching back as he makes his way out of the center. India one down!

Gautham Gambhir 39(39 balls)

Mahmudullah strikes in his first over! Gambhir departs after a steady knock. It was the straighter one, came in a touch after pitching, Gambhir tried whipping it away but missed after getting an inside edge and the ball went on to disturb the wooden framework. India lose their second wicket.

Virat Kohli 100 (83 balls)

Yusuf Pathan 8 (10 balls)

Mahmudullah strikes in his first over! Gambhir departs after a steady knock. It was the straighter one, came in a touch after pitching, Gambhir tried whipping it away but missed after getting an inside edge and the ball went on to disturb the wooden framework. India lose their second wicket.
Fall of Wickets:     1-69 (Sachin Tendulkar, 10.5 Over) 2-152 (Gautam Gambhir, 23.2 Over) 3-355(Virender Sehwag, 47.3 Over) 4-370 (Yusuf Pathan, 50 Over)
Bangladesh Batting :  283/9 (50) Run Rate: 5.70

Tamim Iqbal 70(86 balls)

Munaf strikes as Iqbal departs! A steady innings, unlike Iqbal, comes to a soft end. Length ball on the middle, the left-hander swats it straight to the man at mid-wicket. Yuvraj takes the catch and the Indians celebrate. Bangladesh three down!

Imrul Kayes 34(29 balls)

Bowled ‘em! Kayes chops it on. Patel is delighted. The cameo was short-lived. Length ball wide outside off, Kayes cuts and gets an inside edge onto the stumps. This is a big wicket for the Indians.

Zunaed Siddique 37(52 balls)

Siddique is smartly stumped by Dhoni. Bangladesh lose their second wicket. Harbhajan is rewarded for his fine bowling effort. Flighted delivery, lands outside off and turns away to beat the outside edge. Dhoni collects the ball and whips the bails off in a flash. They appeal but Dhoni didn’t seam confident as it was referred upstairs. Though, the backfoot was on the line and hence OUT was flashed on the giant screen. Pin drop silence in the stands.

Shakib Al Hasan 55(50 balls)

Shakib departs! The party is over, says Ravi Shastri (on air). Length ball, the left-hander slogs it straight down the throat of Harbhajan at deep mid-wicket. He takes the catch, turns to the crowd, keeps the ball inside his pocket and bows to the audience! Pathan is ecstatic as the crowd is stunned in silence!

Mushfiqur Rahim 25(30 balls)

Rahim exits in his attempt to accelerate in the powerplay. A cleverly bowled slower delivery by Zaheer, outside off, Rahim plays it uppishly through the covers but fails to get the desired elevation. Raina takes a simple catch leaping up. Bangladesh look completely out now.

Roqibul Hassan 28 (28 balls)

Abdur Razzak 1(5balls)

Shafiul Islam 0 (1 ball)

Bangladesh vs India match review:

Bangladesh vs India liveThe opening ceremony at the Bangabandhu Stadium is finished, now we get to work. The move is red hot and ready for first game at the 2011 World Cup after easy wins ICC Indian cricket team in friendly matches against New Zealand in Chennai on Wednesday.MS Dhoni comments about her plans to the greatest achievements of the team from India, working in the ICC WC 2011.

The first match of India’s 2011 cricket World Cup against Bangladesh is scheduled for February 19, 2011 (Saturday) in Dhaka. The model of MS Dhoni, wants to replicate that performance in warm-up matches, while suggested talking to the media after the victory of the heating.
For now, the Indian cricket team led by captain MS Dhoni arrived in Dhaka and in the middle of the security for the first game of the new co-host of Bangladesh. The Indian cricket team of 15 members was escorted by the Rapid Action Battalion Command and police personnel at the Sheraton Hotel for two vehicles.

All roads from the airport to the hotel Hazrat Shah Jalal was heavily guarded by police for the official opening of the 2011 World Cup, which will be attended by the captains of the 14 participating nations. This is claimed to be the biggest event in the history of cricket, put on two shows long hours singing, dancing and laser shows during the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony show the different actions, including international celebrities and India, as Bryan Adams and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy and Sonu Nigam. The show is expected to last two hours and two days after playing the first match in India. At this point, all eyes are still in Dhaka and in other countries co-host of the cricket season glamorous dresses.
Iqbal Tamim rose to fame in the 2007 World Cup with a blow of 51 against India, which included breaking the fast bowler Zaheer Khan opens the way for six. With the World Cup at home, the explosive Iqbal, who is also vice-captain of Bangladesh, is the man to see when it comes to bat in front of your audience, especially in the first game of Opening against India, the team spent time upset.
India is co-hosting the tournament and all eyes will be on each player, as is interest in cricket here. But of all the stars of India, Pathan is the man to watch. He has a priceless ability to electrify the game with his stick spectacular, even more pressure. If the hard way over the next two months, Pathan become an even bigger star, and for me it is more likely than anyone to win “The man of the tournament.”

Players to watch:
Knowing that his role in launching India is not a part-time player, Yuvraj Singh should be feeling the hunger pains of his bat. Raina waiting in the wings, Yuvi has to step it up. Bangladesh is one of the weakest teams that have eluded his bat angrily, as Yuvraj can boast of only a century and only a modest average of 32 against them. He will try to redeem themselves and rectify the figures.
Tamim Iqbal has a thing for bowlers in India. When faced with India, the average rises to 32 and their unemployment rate becomes a monstrous 93. He seems to thrive on the lack of accumulation, as their statistics show a marked flash in the preliminary matches in any tournament. His memories of Queen’s Park Oval in 2007 will match one of the most memorable because it was he who put up the match Zaheer to start away from the clutches of India for the first time. Want to put on muscle memory!

Prediction:
India can look to forget their worst loss against its eastern neighbors last met in the West Indies. On the one hand, Bangladesh had won both heat their plans then against Scotland and New Zealand, and followed the wave of the time when India was adrift in unknown conditions. This time, however, India will feel hard done if, riding momentum of its own, to lose one of Bangladesh with a half-order and upper small fragile. One would expect India to be once bitten, twice high!

Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni Launch Cricket Web Portal‎ | Tendulkar, Dhoni launch cricket web portal | Tendulkar, Dhoni launch cricket web portal | 'Sports Mechanics' cricket monitoring web portal

· Posted in ,

'Sports Mechanics' cricket monitoring web portal was on Monday launched here in the presence of senior India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Gary Kirsten.

The portal named "cricketmentor.tv" is an online mentoring platform that uses cutting edge technologies and methodologies for fostering effective interactions between the player, coach and the other members of the sporting community.

The platform offers e-learning capabilities to players, coaches and institutions to effectively govern, manage, analyse, and report development and goal achievement for individual players and the team as a whole.

The function was also attended by other Indian team members Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Munaf Patel, Rohit Sharma and Ashish Nehra.

S Ramakrishnan, the head of the Sports Mechanics and videographer for the Indian cricket team since 2001, who welcomed the gathering said, "This technology is the first of its kind in India. We were the first ones to launch video analysis for cricket in the world in 2000."

"Even today 99 per cent of the coaching is done with a naked eye, which has its own limitations. So, this video analysis technology helps the cricketer to know more about the nuances of the game," Ramakrishnan said.

"The on-field coaching can never be replaced as it is very important but technologies like this could be a additional supplement to the coach, who can watch his wards from wherever he is.

"A channel is given by us for every cricketer and he can upload his videos for monitoring his own right and wrongs.

They can be inter-faced with twitter. It is You tube of cricket. It has more features than you tube. However, more awareness is needed to be created on using video analysis in sports in India," he said.

Coach Kirsten was full of praise for this technology.

"It looks awesome. Good. Certainly what I see it looks exciting. Looking forward to it," he said.

Sports Mechanics, the current performance analyst of the Indian cricket team, volleyball team and squash team, is a sports technology company headquartered at Chennai.

Christina Aguilera’s Grammy performance has many wondering if the singer is pregnant. And I must say, I did notice that ol’ Christina didn’t look like her normal svelte self.

If she is with child, it sure didn’t seem to effect her performance at all. She graced the stage along with Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride and Florence Welch to honor the great Aretha Franklin, and I thought they were all brilliant — Christina included.

That said, an extra dose of hormones could explain one thing about Christina’s effort.

That little spill she took at the very end of the number. Did you happen to catch that? I did. And so did a bunch of other folks. The gaffe is already up on YouTube. Who knows? The adrenaline rush from honoring a legend at the Grammys coupled with some raging hormones could probably make a girl a touch dizzy I suppose. Maybe she is pregnant, and maybe that would explain her little stumble.

But I’m not sure I’m buying it. Christina’s a tiny little thing — the kind of girl who has nowhere to hide an extra pound or two. And that’s what I suspect the real deal is. Namely that Christina, as we’re all prone to do, has thrown on a couple of extra pounds this winter and there was nowhere for those pounds to hide in the form-fitting dress she rocked on stage.

Regardless, the question is out there, so I thought I’d pose it here. Do you think Christina’s pregnant? Though I’d never pretend to know for sure, I am certain of this. She recovered nicely from her fall. Check it out:
