Pakistan Team Captain Shahid Khan Afridi after loosing Semi Final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 against India said in press Conference. Shahid Afridi pronounced himself “proud” of his team’s performance in the World Cup and hoped that their reception on arrival in Pakistan would reflect the side’s achievement in getting to the last four at a time when expectations were significantly lower.Pakistan lost by 29 runs to India in Mohali in a scrappy match, in which they were generally off their game with bat, ball and, most damagingly, in the field. They were in with a chance at various stages, including when they began the chase, only to let it slip each time.
Afridi said the batting, their weaker suit, had been problematic again. There were several starts but no stand greater than the opening one of 44. “We were struggling to build partnerships right through the tournament,” he said. “The matches where we had partnerships we made good scores. Because we couldn’t make partnerships, today we struggled and played some bad shots at the wrong time as well.”
But their run-in to the game, with only one loss in seven matches, came after another period of turmoil which saw them lose three key players in last year’s spot-fixing scandal, including a dangerous new-ball opening pair in Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir. To add to the instability, Afridi wasn’t appointed captain until two weeks before the tournament began but an unheralded Pakistan side beat Sri Lanka, Australia and West Indies en route to the semi-final.

Afridi had said before the tournament he wanted his team in the last four and despite the loss, seemed in generally upbeat mood. “I am proud of my team and the boys have done a great job in this World Cup. A few of the youngsters are very promising and we played as a unit. Winning and losing is something different but we really played really good cricket and no one was expecting us to play cricket like this. As captain I’m very happy.”
The run was Pakistan’s best in a World Cup since 1999, when they were runners-up to Australia. In 2003 and 2007 they were eliminated before the knock-out stages, disastrous results which led to intense anger and criticism on their return. It is unlikely Afridi’s side will receive a similar reception though already the early signs of reaction from Pakistan seemed to focus on Misbah-ul-Haq‘s slow batting in the chase as the cause of defeat.

“ Afridi said. “We didn’t have much hope from this side but I have respect for my team. Reception? We will go back, people will give us confidence, they backed us. If those people who make us stars say a little what’s wrong with that? It’s nothing bige wanted to win, but people I think realize we gave it our all. To win six games from eight is a big achievement.”
. Nobody wanted Pakistan to lose, w
A few incidents apart, Pakistan went through the tournament without any major scandal and a visible sense of unity and togetherness within the squad. That in itself was a minor triumph given what had gone before. “The difficult circumstances we played cricket in, the difficult circumstances we have gone through in the last nine-ten months, to build this team and the effort we put in was phenomenal.

“I’d like to thank the PCB chairman for giving me support and the way the boys supported each other and me, the management and the coach, they really helped me a lot. To take a broken team, make it into a team for the World Cup and to perform like no one was expecting, I’m happy with that.”

2011 Cricket World Cup, Wankhede Stadium Mumbai Chosen For Sachin Tendulkar

· Posted in ,

The Wankhede Stadium is a cricket stadium in the Indian city of Mumbai. This ground was built after disputes between the Cricket Club of India, which owns the Brabourne Stadium, and the Mumbai Cricket Association over the allocation of tickets for cricket matches.

It was built in six months and opened in time for the final Test between India and the West Indies in 1975.

Since then the Wankhede stadium has taken over from Brabourne Stadium as the main cricketing venue in the city. The stadium has a capacity of 33,317 and is always in contention to host an international match in India.

The stadium has been witness to great innings like Gavaskar's 205 against the Windies and Kallicharran's 187 in the same game in the 1978-79 series and all round heroics like Ian Botham's century and thirteen wickets in the Jubilee Test in 1980. which England won by ten wickets. The highest score by an Indian at Wankhede remains Vinod Kambli's 224 against England in 1992-93 in only his third Test. Incidentally Ravi Shastri's six sixes in an over off Baroda's Tilak Raj en route to the fastest double-hundred in first-class cricket was on this ground in 1984-85.

The cricket pitch is known to offer assistance to bowlers and is largely a spinner and pace friendly track. It offers spin and bounce to spin bowlers and swing to fast bowlers during the early part of each day due to the ground being close to sea.On days four and five of a test the pitch does tend to break up a fair bit which in turn offers great assistance to spinners. In 1995 the stadium was upgraded and lights were added to host day and night games. Later, in 1996 it hosted an India-Australia match in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

ICC chief Haroon Lorgat defended the decision to stage the World Cup final in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, saying it would provide the perfect setting for the city's favourite son Sachin Tendulkar to script a "fairytale" ending.

Choosing the arena for the finale raised a few eyebrows amid growing frustration for shortage of tickets as the 33,442-seater stadium has the second lowest capacity out of the eight Indian venues hosting matches during the six-week tournament.

While Kolkata's revamped Eden Gardens could hold almost 60,000 fans, Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla and Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel grounds have around 50,000 seats but all of them were overlooked for the April 2 final.

"You know you have got choices to make," International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Lorgat told reporters on Wednesday.
"Can you imagine a (more) fairytale ending with Sachin Tendulkar getting a hundred in the final and India winning at the Wankhede which is his home ground?
"And no matter what the number (of seats), we do not have sufficient tickets."

Fans, seeking tickets, have regularly clashed with baton-wielding police in the subcontinent bringing the tournament on the verge of being a public-relations disaster.

The violence forced the organisers to shelve plans of selling some tickets for the final through box offices.
Lorgat said the organisers simply did not have the means to satisfy the ticketing demands of a cricket-loving country that boasts a billion plus population.

"Attendances have been phenomenal. We expect that from the quarter-final stages every single seat in the house will be sold," Lorgat said.

"It's an unfortunate reality that it's a finite sum of tickets and there is huge demand for it."

Demand of tickets for matches featuring the three co-hosts, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, have far exceeded supply. Last month the official online ticket website crashed due to 10 million people chasing just 1,000 tickets for the final. There have also been reports in the local media about allegations of black marketing of tickets while people waited in in long queues.

About 200 people shouted slogans and displayed placards against the local organisers outside the Sardar Patel Stadium -- which will host the India v Australia quarter-final on Thursday -- alleging mismanagement of tickets and black marketing.

"We simply don't tolerate black marketing of tickets and where we have found those instances we have certainly taken action," the top ICC executive said.

"In certain instances there have been arrests. We do alert police and other officials to ensure that does not happen."
The tournament has been a learning point for the ICC and the governing body will look at ways to handle the ticketing issues better in the future, the chief executive said.
"There is always a better way of doing certain things and there are few lessons that we can learn from it," Lorgat said.
"But the fact is that the demand has been absolutely phenomenal and no matter how well we tried we could not fit in the demand into the supply that we have got."

India win by 29 runs to reach a dream home final in Mumbai, where they will face Sri Lanka to decide the World Cup! Shahid Afridi leads his team out to shake the hands of the victorious Indians, Pakistan can certainly hold their heads up high after their performances in this tournament. After they breezed through the group stages, with one blip against New Zealand, this was always going to be their biggest challenge. There was so much hype around this game, so much pressure on both teams, but there can be only one winner. Today, it was India.

You can’t blame Misbah’s slow start for Pakistan’s failure. He was always there to hold the batting together while other people hit out around him, but there was nothing substantial from the top order. Where Pakistan must really be disappointed is in their fielding. How much of a difference could it have made if they had held all their catches?

“This was almost like a final, whenever India and Pakistan play each other the pressure is always doubled,” says Harbhajan, somewhat superfluously.

Shahid Afridi, the Losing captain, can still manage a smile which is nice to see. “First of all I’d like to congratulate the Indian cricket team and the Indian nation for this great victory, and wish them all the best fo the final,” he says, magnanimously. “Wahab really bowled well today, but we missed some opportunities. They played better than us. We didn’t make partnerships, we played some irresponsible shots, and a partnership was crucial. I want to say sorry to my nation. We tried our level best, and we enjoyed ourselves at this tournament.”

M S Dhoni looks very pleased. “We got off to a fantastic start through Sehwag and Sachin. As the game progressed the wicket got slower, and in the middle overs it was difficult to score. Shahid bowled really well, and it was important to just play the bowling with respect. 260 was a good score for this pitch. It was turning, we read the wicket wrong and that’s why we went with three seamers, but in the end the seamers bowled really well too. We don’t have bowlers who can bowl 140 plus, overall we really on what you might call deception – change of length, line and pace. Zaheer did really well, over the years with experience and in IPL and things like that he’s become really smart. We’ve struggled at times in this tournament, but that’s the beauty of this game.”

Man of the Match: Sachin Tendulkar, who’s played in every world cup game between India and Pakistan since 1992, is the Man of the Match. “First of all I’d like to thank everyone here for terrific support, without that this wouldn’t have been possible, and not to forget the whole team’s efforts today. We just had to make sure we got to a decent, fighting total. When we started I was thinking of 310 to 315, whch was par score for me, but the way the ball started stopping and spinning, something closer to 270 was par.

“Going back to Mumbai for this event is going to be a wonderful occasion, we’ve got to be calm and focussed. This has been memorable, and something I will cherish all through my life.”

And there you have it. Through 48 games, the teams in this World Cup have slowly been whittled down, and now only India and Sri Lanka remain. They will meet in the final, in Mumbai, on Saturday. With so much riding on this game, this was India’s biggest challenge of the tournament, and the build-up to the final could well feel low-key in comparison!
India won the 2nd Semi Final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 against Pakistan by 29 runs with one ball to spare on March 30, 2011 from Punjab Association Cricket Stadium, Mohali Chandigarh India.

Pakistan’s openers began brightly in their chase of 261, but India’s bowlers fought back to leave the semi-final delicately poised after 25 overs. The departure of Asad Shafiq, who was guiding the pursuit admirably, perhaps gave India the edge at the halfway mark, although Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq and their lower-order colleagues still stood between the hosts and a date with Sri Lanka in Saturday’s final.

Memorable Moments (India)

* In 1984, the Indian team led by Kapil Dev was bowled out for 125 in Sharjah. In the dressing room, Kapil asked his bowlers to just go and make things difficult for Pakistan, since they had nothing to lose. In reply, India bowled out Imran Khan’s Pakistan team for a paltry 87. Catches win matches, and it was a cliche come true at Sharjah. This was one of those rare matches in the sub-continent a low-scoring game that was a thriller all the way. With Imran Khan firing on all cylinders, India were shot out for a miserable 125 and it seemed all over bar the shouting. It was India’s fielding that won the day and leading the way was veteran opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Pakistan were all out for 87. Gavaskar’s four brilliant catches at slip would stand as a world record till it was broken by Jonty Rhodes in 1993.

* During 1996 World Cup Quarter Final, in Bangalore, Aamir Sohail smashed a delivery from Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad through the covers for a four. After this, he pointed his bat towards the Prasad & boundary where the ball had gone. In the very next delivery, Prasad bowled out Sohail and pointed his finger towards the pavilion. In the same match, Ajay Jadeja had hit Waqar Younis for 18 & 22 in 48th & 50th over. Though numerically insignificant, Ajay Jadeja smashing 45 swung the match away from Pak in this tension-packed knockout match. Coming in for the slog, Jadeja was particularly severe on Waqar whose first eight overs had cost 47 runs. The next two went for 18 and 22 with Jadeja smashing four 4s and two 6s off a mere 26 balls. That took India to a formidable 287 for 8 which proved too much for Pakistan.

* In Sahara Friendship series, Toronto, 1997 Sourav Ganguly dominated a series with both bat and ball like no cricketer has before or since. He almost single-handedly guided India to a 4-1 rout of Pakistan. A total of 222 runs, 15 wickets and three catches in the six games (the third was abandoned after 31.5 overs) was a dazzling performance and earned Ganguly the Man of the Series award. Ganguly started quietly with two wickets and 17 runs in the first game. In the second he again took two wickets and scored 32. He took two of three wickets to fall in the washed out third game and then routed Pakistan in the fourth with figures of 5 for 16 to make it three wins in a row. The fifth saw him shine with the bat 75 not out plus two wickets and then in the sixth and final the only defeat for India-he top scored with 96 and picked up another two wickets. It was virtually Ganguly vs Pakistan.

* In the final of the Independence Cup at the national stadium Dhaka, India pulled off a sensational three-wicket win with one ball to spare against Pakistan when Hrishikesh Kanitkar’s hit Saqlain Mushtaq for a crucial boundary off the second-last ball of the match in India’s memorable victory over Pakistan. In this match Sourav Ganguly played a wonderful knock of 124, and this was the India’s first such a big chase. Sourav was adjudged man of the match for the breath-taking knock that he played.

* It was a golden moment when Anil Kumble took 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan to become one of the two bowlers in Test cricket history to achieve the feat. On 8 February 1999, History was created at d Feorzeshah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi when One of India’s Greatest Spinners Anil Kumble became only the Second Bowler ever (the other being Jim Laker(England)) to have taken all 10 wickets in a Test innings. Anil Kumble achieved this feat against Pakistan in the second Test played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi and leading India to Victory by very huge margin of 212 runs.

* In a group game of the 2003 Cricket World Cup, at Centurion, India were chasing 273 against a legendary Pakistani attack (Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar, Razzaq, Afridi) on a lively pitch. In response, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag got of to a stunning flyer scoring 53 in 5 overs by demoralizing Pakistan’s bowlers hitting heavily with sixes & fours to Shoaib Akhtar. India eventually won the game with 4 overs to spare. Thus, India maintained always a “winning consistency” or “never loose” against Pakistan in world cup cricket history. Sachin Tendulkar scored 98 in that Centurion, World Cup, 2003 match. It is one of the ironies of cricket that despite his tons of centuries in ODIs, Tendulkar’s most momentous innings was one that fell two short of the mark. From the very start of India’s reply to Pakistan’s 273, the full house were treated to a dazzling exhibition. Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had been talking up a storm and Tendulkar went about his bowling with a vengeance. In his very first over he was carted for a six and two fours and the fight went out of the Pakistan camp as Tendulkar and the rest raced to victory.

* India won a stunning game in a thrilling finish- 1st ODI Karachi 2004 India tour of Pakistan, as Pakistan failed to hit the nine runs needed off the final over. Ashish Nehra held his nerve brilliantly, conceding just three runs and ending with the wicket of Moin Khan needing a six off the very last ball to win the match.

* Sachin Tendulkar scored 141 in Rawalpindi, 2004. It was the first ODI century on Pakistan soil by an Indian batsman in 26 years of trying. But just as his fantastic 123 failed to prevent victory for Pakistan in the fourth ODI at Ahmedabad the other day, it was a similar story a year back at Rawalpindi. Having narrowly won the first match at Karachi after topping 300, it was now the turn of India to fail in the chase while going after Pakistan’s 329 for 6. It was Tendulkar’s highest ODI score against Pakistan at more than a run a ball and was full of glorious shots which brought him 17 fours and a six. India fell short by 12 runs but the Man of the Match award went to Tendulkar. It was his 37th ODI hundred and during the innings he crossed 13,000 runs.

* Virender Sehwag’s blazing knock of 309 (375 balls, 531 minutes, 39 fours, 6 sixes) had come against Pakistan in 1st Test match-India’s tour of Pakistan-2004 played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Pakistan. Virender Sehwag became the first Indian to hit a Test triple century. This test match was memorable because India clinched an historic win i.e India’s first-ever Test victory in Pakistan. At the stroke of 1 Six, Sehwag launched Saqlain Mushtaq into the stands over midwicket to become the first Indian to reach 300 in style with a fearless six. In this match Anil Kumble (6/30 in the second innings) and Sachin Tendulkar (194 not out in the first inning) played sterling roles in the win.

* India’s 2004 tour to Pakistan was a huge success, with both Test and one-day series victories. For the first time ever India won a series in Pakistan. India won the Test series by 2-1 and ODI series by 3-2 in Pakistan in the tour. The Indian cricket team went for a complete tour to Pakistan after a long gap of 15 years in 2004 and hence, the tour was considered as historical even before it started. And it ended in India`s First Test Series Win in Pakistan, 2004 with the powerful performance of complete Indian team specially Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and the strong emergence of Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Lakshmipathy Balaji.

* At the Vishakhapatnam Ground in 2005, Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrated his maiden ODI century against Pakistan with a cracking 148, the highest score by an Indian against Pakistan, off just 123 balls, with 15 bounadries and four sixes, batting at number three, Dhoni hit a breezy ton of 148 as India posted their highest total against Pakistan i.e. 356 for 9. Thus Dhoni arrived to international cricket by this marvellous inning and he was always remembered for this killing innings that destroyed Pakistan bowling attack completely. There were two magic moments in course of Dhoni’s innings, and neither had anything to do with the free-flowing player’s shot-making. The first was when he completed his century; the second, when he was finally out. On both occasions, the cameras panned to the team dressing room — and there, up on his feet, a smile as wide as all outdoors, stood Virender Sehwag, furiously applauding. Virender Sehwag clapped right through as Dhoni walked into the pavilion. And as the young wicket-keeper walked up to him, Viru grabbed his hand and slapped him on the back, his smile getting even wider. The signal was clear: Sehwag, who increasingly has become the go-to guy every time India needs quick runs, was recognizing the emergence of a kindred spirit, a young lad without a shadow of fear in his heart or doubt in his mind.

* India won the 5 match ODI series 4–1 in India’s 2005 tour to Pakistan in which Indian batsmen demonstrated a pressure handling run chase through out the series by Yuvraj Singh (who scored 344 runs in 5 matches) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni(who scored 219 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 137). Dhoni’s performance in that tour of Pakistan propelled him to number three in ICC 2005 ranking among ODI batsmen.

* Irfan Pathan claimed a first over hat-trick against Pakistan, becoming the second person , after Nuwan Zoysa, to achieve this feat in a test match in the first over. In a sensational start to the third Test of India’s tour to Pakistan Jan 2006 played at National Stadium Karachi, Irfan Pathan took the wickets of Pakistan’s top order batsmen – Salman Butt (caught by Rahul Dravid at slip), Younis Khan (LBW) and Mohammand Yousuf (bowled) of the last three deliveries of the first over. This feat made Pathan the second Indian to achieve a test hat trick (the other being Harbhajan Singh).

* The First T20 World cup was played in South Africa, 2007 & the First T20 match between India & Pakistan ended in Tie and then the bowl-out took place, India won the bowl-out by 3-0. Twenty20 doesn’t allow a result to end in a tie and now it was time for the ‘Bowl Out’ as scores are levelled. Each team has to nominate five bowlers to bowl a ball each with both sides alternating. The team that hits the stumps most times would be the winners with overstepping the crease not counted. Shoaib Malik won the toss and he asked India to have first go. The crowd didn’t leave the stadium at all, they were praying for their respective teams to prevail in this unique contest on a cricket ground. India’s five bowlers were Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Harbhajan Singh, Sreesanth and Irfan Pathan while Pakistan’s were Asif, Umar Gul, Afridi, Arafat and Tanvir. Sehwag started the Bowl Out and bang he was on the target and in response Yasir Arafat nervously bowled it oustide the offstump! Next Harbhajan bowled an off break that went straight onto the stumps and in reply, Umar Gul bowled with cross seam which nicely swung away outside the offstump. Pakistan under all sorts of pressure, they now needed to fire in three out of three to just tie the Bowl Out and start it all over. Robin Uthappa came in next, hit the stumps and took a bow. His competitor Shahid Afridi drifted his leg break down the legstump leaving India victorious with a score of 3-0. The only consolation for Pakistan was the Man of the Match award which went to Mohammad Asif.

* In the grand final of ICC T20 world cup 2007 between IND vs PAK, that held in South Africa, both the teams reached the finals and Pakistan needed 6 runs in 4 balls with 1 wicket remaining, Misbah Ul-Haq batting on 53 was on strike and got out to Joginder Sharma on the 4th ball and India won the match by 5 runs. India triumphed emphatically in the inaugural edition of the World Cup T20. This was also a golden moment for Indian Cricket team because India under captaincy of M.S.Dhoni beat their arch-rival Pakistan in the World Twenty20 final by five runs to clinch their first major trophy since 1983 World Cup.

* In Asia Cup 2008, Karachi Sehwag’s 119 and Raina’s 84 seal thumping win against Pakistan. The 198-run stand between Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina shut Pakistan out of the game. India 301 for 4 (Sehwag 119, Raina 84) beat Pakistan 299 for 4 (Malik 125 retd, Younis 59) by six wickets. Raina did most of the early scoring with free-flowing cover drives when offered width outside off stump by Sohail Tanvir and Anjum. Raina scored his maiden hundred against Hong Kong during the first match of 2008 Asia Cup played in Pakistan. Bristling with confidence after his century against Hong Kong, He scored 84 of 69 against Pakistan and 116 of 107 against Bangladesh, in next two matches. Hence, Raina won man of the match award successively for three times in that 2008 Asia Cup played in Pakistan. This led to the emergence of Suresh Raina. Since then, Raina has been a member of India’s full-strength ODI and T20 team.

* India and Pakistan’s eagerly anticipated clash at The Oval in a warm up match of second ICC T20 World Cup June, 2009 had been designated as a “Catch the Spirit” match by the ICC, a fundraiser to help support families of the victims of the attack on the Sri Lanka team and officials in Lahore in March. India thrashed Pakistan in that T20 warm-up match making it a one-sided Twenty20 game. Rohit Sharma with a 80-run blitzkrieg & Gautam Gambhir 52 not out continued to give India a combination dilemma and made the chase seem like an afternoon walk in a London park. Rohit Sharma tore apart Pakistan’s bowling attack as India bulldozed their arch-rivals by nine wickets with three overs to spare in their final warm-up match of the ICC World Twenty20 on Wednesday night.

* In response to the Sharma-Miandad classic, in the 4th game of the Asia Cup 2010, India were chasing 268 to win against Pakistan. With 9 needed off the last over, Harbhajan Singh hit a six in the penultimate ball sealing the victory for India, followed by a loud roar towards Shoaib Akhtar. That reaction was sparked by an altercation with Akhtar in the previous over. In response, Akhtar hand-gestured Singh with a ‘V’ sign.

Memorable Moments (Pakistan)

* In the 1986 Australasia cup final in Sharjah, Chetan Sharma, famous for grabbing a hat-trick in a World-Cup, was about to bowl the last bowl of the match with Pakistan needing four runs to win. He bowled a low full-toss outside the leg-stump, which got hit for six by Javed Miandad. This made Sharma a villain in the eyes of Indian fans, and conversely Miandad was hailed as a hero.

* In the first test match of the Pakistan-India test series in 1999 India needed 271 runs to win in the fourth innings. With only Tendulkar putting up resistance, with his dismissal and the score on 254, Pakistan tightened the screws and forced an Indian collapse winning the test match by 12 runs.

* The 1999 tri series in Australia was a famous one for Pakistan. Although Pakistan did not win the series they were able to beat rivals India in 3 out of the 4 matches they played against India.

* A sledging incident involving Javed Miandad and Kiran More where Miandad famously imitated More during a match by jumping up and down on the pitch. A scene questionable, but equally hilarious.

* Saeed Anwar struck a superb 194 against India in Chennai, India in 1997. The match was won by Pakistan. It is one of the greatest innings played by a batsman in an ODI breaking Sir Viv Richards previous score of 189*.

* Opening batsmen Saeed Anwar struck a match winning 188* against India in the Asian Test Championship in 1999 in India. Pakistan went on to win the match due to this knock.

* In the Wills trophy final played in Sharjah, Aaqib Javed claimed a hat trick against India with his best bowling figures of 7/37 off 10 overs.

* The first test match of the Asian Test Championship played at Eden Gardens, Calcutta from 16–20 February 1999 is arguably the most controversial test encounter the two nations have ever played. The match was and has remained the best-attended cricket match in history with total attendance of around 465,000 people. The game is particularly remembered due to the extraordinary performances by Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar for 4/71 and 4/47, Saeed Anwar for 188 not out for batting throughout the second innings. Controversy ensued when Tendulkar was run out in the second innings to which the Indian crowd reacted angrily to. It resulted in them causing a riot and the police and officials having to remove most of the crowd and the remainder of the test having to be watched with the stadium near empty, Pakistan eventually won the test by 46 runs.

* Pakistan defeated India in the second match of the Carlton and United Series on 10 January 2000, with Waqar Younis and Saqlain Mushtaq making a 43 run partnership and scoring the winning runs off the last ball of the match.

* Pakistan won their first ever win in an ICC event against India in the 2004 Champions Trophy in England. With Mohammad Yousuf (Yousaf Youhanna at that time) struck a beautiful knock of 81* and took Pakistan to the winning line.

* Salman Butt scored five out of seven centuries of his career against the arch-rivals India in the time when Pakistan need it. Although he scored his debut century also against India at BCCI’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration in 2005 at Eden Garden Calcutta which Pakistan had won by six wickets.

* In the fifth ODI in Kanpur, 15 April 2005 Shahid Afridi smashed a 45 ball century making him first and third on the list of fastest centuries in ODI cricket (moved down to fourth after Mark Boucher’s 44 ball century in 2006).

* In the 2006 Karachi test, Pakistan came back from 39/6 in the first innings to win the match convincingly by 341 runs. Thanks to Kamran Akmal’s knock of 113 in the first innings and Mohammad Asif’s figures of 7/126.

* Pakistan won a memorable 2006 series in India. After losing the first two ODI’s, Pakistan went on to win the next 4 ODI’s clinically claiming the series 4-2. It was a famous win for Pakistan as they were hinted as the weakest Pakistani team to tour India.

* Pakistan beat India in 2009 edition of Champions Trophy by 54 runs.

* Pakistan will play India in the semi finals of the 2011 ICC world cup on the 30th of March.

Harold Camping Predicts The World Ends 5/21/2011.

If you have never heard of Harold Camping before, then you have never heard of the date the world will end. According the 89 year old retired engineer and self proclaimed prophet-Jesus will return on May 21, 2011 to judge the world, and the world as we know it will come to an end. Per the Camping ministry, living in Hell or Heaven forever is as close as May 21, 2011, in accordance with to his calculation. Camping claims to have come into this knowledge supported by “his” biblical calender calculation founded on the scriptures which is confirmed by the foundation of the state of Israel in 1948.

The Associated Press caught of with one of Campings recruits, Marie Exley, a 32-year-old Army veteran who desires to start a family, but believes that she has no time to do so and therefore, she will spend the remaining months before the end, sending a stark warning across the US and overseas: “Judgment Day is almost here.” Ms. Exley believes in the May 21, 2011 judgement and has shown her loyalty to the Camping movement by leaving her home in Colorado Springs, Colo. to work with Oakland, Calif.-based Family Radio Worldwide independent Christian ministry.

According to the AP. “Exley is part of a movement of Christians loosely organized by radio broadcasts and websites, independent of churches and convinced by their reading of the Bible that the end of the world will begin May 21, 2011.To get the word out, they’re using billboards and bus stop benches, traveling caravans of RVs and volunteers passing out pamphlets on street corners. Cities from Bridgeport, Conn., to Little Rock, Ark., now have billboards with the ominous message, and mission groups are traveling through Latin America and Africa to spread the news outside the U.S.”

Since her move to California in August 2010 veteran Marie Exley has used her military experience in logistic organization to is organizing blocks of RVs carrying the message from city to city before she is deployed overseas again. These vehicles were scheduled to be in five North Carolina cities until January 2011. Exley states about her time away to serve: “I don’t really have plans to come back,” she said. “Time is short.”

As drastic has Marie has been about getting the announcement of the May 21, 2011 judgement date out, she is not alone. Some of Campings followers are carrying out this proclamation in more subtle ways. Raleigh, NC resident Allison Warden, 29 has been helping organize a campaign using billboards, post cards and other media in cities across the U.S. through a website named “We Can Know”. I visited http://www.wecanknow.com/ and found an arsenal of biblical text that is used to support this claim of the day of judgement Camping is proclaiming.

The Rapture

Camping states: “Beyond the shadow of a doubt, May 21 will be the date of the Rapture and the day of judgment.”

Although it is the most preached and believed sermon amongst Christians, the man made doctrine known as the “Rapture” is no where to found in the bible. It teaches that believers will be taken up (fly upwards) to heaven, while everyone else will remain on earth for a period of torment (the great tribulation), concluding with the end of time, which Camping preaches will happen in October 2011.

So what happens if his prediction does not come true? Well, Camping’s follower Warden has an answer for that too “If May 21 passes and I’m still here, that means I wasn’t saved. Does that mean God’s word is inaccurate or untrue? Not at all,” Warden said.

The belief that Christ will return to earth and bring an end to history, is documented in Bible with elaboration in such books as the book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament. This is the fundamental believes if Christians since the first century Church. However, the date this will take place is not stated in the bible and very few churches are willing to set a date for the end of the world, Jesus’ himself states in the gospels of Mark and Matthew that no one will know the day or hour when the Lord will return. Paul, the Apostle speaks to the church on the comming of the Lord in the book of 1 Thessaloninans Chapters 4 and 5 and state in chapter 5 verse 2: “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.”

So in all logic we know that since Paul likened the coming of the Lord to that of a burglar, how practical is it that the Lord would reveal to his Apostle that the day would be unannounced but later renege and give Camping the formula for the exact date?

Yahoo Press states, “predictions like Camping’s, though, aren’t new. One of the most famous in history was by the Baptist leader William Miller, who predicted the end for Oct. 22, 1844, which came to be known as the Great Disappointment among his followers, some of whom subsequently founded the Seventh Day Adventist church.”

According to Exley, who said her beliefs have estranged her from most of her friends and family. “If you still want to say we’re crazy, go ahead,” she said. “But it doesn’t hurt to look into it.”

Om Shanti Om girl Yuvika Chaudhary at Naughty at 40, Pictures And News

· Posted in ,

Jagmohan Mundhra’s take on Steven Carrell’s 40 Year Old Virgin went into production three years ago. The film hasn’t seen the light of day yet, but breezed in and out of court several times over. The Govinda-Yuvika Chaudhary-starrer is once again in the news for a legal tangle.

Naughty @ 40 was expected to release at the end of February this year, which didn’t happen. Anuj Sharma, a co-producer, is working towards an April release.

Yuvika Chaudhary, who has featured in bit roles in movies like Om Shanti Om and Toh Baat Pakki was overjoyed. Looks like Govinda has taken a leaf out of Salman Khan's book who keeps recommending his heroines, especially newbies for his projects.

In February 2010, the film received a stay order. Around the same time, Sharma appealed to the court for a period of six months to complete the film, and gather money to pay Kapur back. “The court gave him nine months but he did nothing,” says Kapur, who claims that he had supervised about 60 per cent of the film shoot till then.

Of the many allegations made against Sharma, a recent one claimed that he had sold the film to a Mumbai-based film company called Ghajini Media Corporation. But, Sharma has a different story to tell. “Ghajini Media has been associated with the film for a long time now. I have not sold any rights to anyone,” says Sharma. “The cheques given to me by Sandiip have bounced several times. As for the joint account, why did Sandiip continue to give me money if he had such an issue? I’ve been in too much trouble. Now, I’m completing the required court formalities and working towards an April release.”

Play music in train, go to jail | Nuisance train users facing fines | A Public Nuisance Train Man | Public Nuisance Complaints India

Be prepared to spend six months behind bars if caught disturbing fellow passengers by playing loud music or singing bhajans

How many times have you clenched your teeth at the tinny, monophonic music emanating from your fellow traveller's cellphone in a local? Or, at the wandering minstrels crooning bhajans to the accompaniment of cymbals and brass bells. Well, rejoice, for the railways have outlawed these noisy musical pursuits.
Following countless complaints against the unwanted loud music in locals and long distance trains, the railways have decided to punish people singing bhajans and playing music on mobile phone loudspeakers, a practice that haunts many passengers.

If you happen to be irritating your co-passengers with loud music, you can expect a stint in jail for as long as six months, or cough up a fine of Rs 500, or both, depending on how annoying you are to your co-passengers (see box).

A complaint can be registered by sending an SMS to the railway's helpline number (see box) or by calling on the GRP helpline number. Railway authorities have promised that they will act on it promptly if the necessary details are provided to them.

Last year, the CR had registered 608 cases and collected a fine of Rs 1,61,750 related to singing bhajans in groups with musical instruments and playing cards in locals.

This year, they have arrested 94 passengers and collected a fine of Rs 11,150. But no passenger has been sent to a lockup yet. That is what will change now.

Peeved commuters

Many passengers rant against the uncalled-for music in trains.

Sudhakar Patil, who stays in Titwala, said, "Quite a few people play music on mobiles or sing prayers or film songs while travelling.

They forget that they are not travelling alone. I have myself sent messages on the railway helpline number and made complaints to the station master but nothing has been done yet."

Patil is not the only one. Thousands of others get disturbed by the unsolicited music and have no choice but to suffer it.

William Thomas, who has been commuting between CST and Vashi daily for the past 25 years, is peeved with the railway administration for not taking any action against such passengers.

"During rush hours, there is hardly any place to sit in coaches, and some passengers add to the irritation by playing music on cellphone loudspeakers disco, bhajans, film songs, what not.

It is so irritating!" said Thomas, adding that if somebody wants to listen to music, they can always put on headphones. "After a tiresome day, we want some peaceful time in the train," he said.

'Bhajans are good'

When MiD DAY contacted passengers who are part of the bhajan mandali, they claimed they had no other time to offer prayers to the almighty. So they seize the opportunity that commuting provides. Also, the singing relaxes them during the stressful journey, so what's wrong in that?

Mayur Adkar, who has been part of the bhajan mandali, has a simple solution for passengers who do not want to listen to bhajans: they can always change their bogie. "I know many passengers who come to the bhajan compartment specially to hear us. You can see such bogies are more crowded."

Commuters complain that loud music and bhajans add to their frustration while travelling in crowded trains

But his endorsement confidently stops short of supporting any other genre or platform of music. "In any coach, one can see a few passengers playing their choice of songs on phones. That is really irritating. But I doubt that singing bhajans bothers any passenger," he said.

Expertspeak

Experts welcome the railways' intervention, saying that one man's entertainment is another man's exacerbation. Sumaira Abdul Ali, founder of Awaaz Foundation, an NGO involved in curbing noise pollution, said, "There is no fixed standard to decide how many decibels of music should be played.

One person may enjoy it but others may be troubled by it. Continuously listening to unwanted sounds definitely affects a person, mentally and otherwise.

The railway administration is doing the right thing. We should welcome the move and co-operate with them." Passenger associations are in complete harmony with this.

Madhu Kotian, president, Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh, said, "Playing loud music in trains is wrong.

For one person's enjoyment, others mustn't be troubled. Everybody is worn-out while travelling and if somebody is getting irritated with loud music, it may lead to fights. People can always use headsets."

Officials say

Sharat Chandrayan, Chief PRO, Western Railway, said, "This is a serious offence and is specified in the Railway Act. If we receive any complaints, we will punish the guilty."

A K Singh, PRO, CR, said, "We will strictly apply Section 145 (b) of the Railway Act and will punish guilty passengers."

Rulebook says
With thousands of complaints of loud music in trains over the past many years, the railways finally decided to strictly apply Section 145 (b) of the Indian Railway Act, 1989, which reads, "If any person in any railway carriage or upon any part of a railway, commits any nuisance or act of indecency or uses abusive or obscene language, then such punishment shall not be less than a fine of Rs 500 and imprisonment of six months."

Robert Pattinson Cover of Vanity Fair | Win Robert Pattinson's Vanity Fair 2011 Magazine Issue | Robert Pattinson Vanity Fair Wallpaper

Robert Pattinson covers Vanity Fair April 2011. The magazine already warned fans they’d have to begin wearing real panties rather than ones with cartoon characters and a snug fit, as walking to the store alone to purchase Tiger Beat Lite would make them a ‘big girl’. I heard about this cover a while ago, but didn’t really think anything of it. Then I heard about his carrying of an alligator and yet still couldn’t quite muster the energy to gather all the f**ks I gave about this. That said, I remained hopeful the creature would be eating him whole. It’s not. He’s just giving it a piggyback or something. There are more photos below of Pattinson not being eaten in the leaked pictures from his Vanity Fair shoot.

Fresh earthquake rocks Japan on 28th March 2011 | New Earthquake felt in Japan with 6.5 Magnitude

· Posted in

Japan has lifted a tsunami warning after a large tremor struck the devestated north-east coast early today , the weather agency says.

The Japan Meteorological Agency had earlier issued a 50-centimetre tsunami warning for the Pacific coast of Miyagi prefecture, which was shattered by the huge earthquake and tsunami that hit on March 11.

The US Geological Survey reported a 6.5-magnitude earthquake but then downgraded its strength. The epicentre was at a depth of 17 kilometres, it added.

Japan’s weather agency said that the quake was most likely an aftershock of the massive tremor more than two weeks ago, and warned of more to come.

The quake happened at 7.24am local time (9.24am AEDT time), near the east coast of Honshu.

Australia's Bureau of Meteorology, which reported that the undersea quake was 6.7-magnitude, said there was no tsunami threat to Australia.

The number of dead and missing from the earthquake, tsunami and subsequent aftershocks has reached 27,110. The government is struggling to help hundreds of thousands left homeless or without essential services or food.

Meanwhile, tests have detected radiation levels at the crippled Fukushimi Dai-ichi nuclear plant that might cause vomiting, hair loss and diarrhea upon exposure.

Water may be leaking from the plant's the No. 2 reactor, Sakae Muto, a vice-president at plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco)  said today in Tokyo.

The highest radiation readings so far suggest the situation has yet to be contained more than two weeks after the earthquake and tsunami knocked out power to the plant.

Thousands of tons of water dumped on the reactors may now be leaking radioactive elements outside the plant. Engineers are working on ways to drain and store the contaminated water.

"This news story is far from over,’’ said Akira Tokuhiro, professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering at the University of Idaho. "It’s not like a flooded basement, you don’t just pump it into the street."

The radiation level at the No. 2 reactor yesterday was measured at 1000 millisieverts an hour, Japan’s nuclear safety agency said. A single dose would cause radiation sickness, according to the World Nuclear Association.

Higher radiation has forced repair work to be suspended and engineers to rotate shifts. About 600 workers are at the Dai- Ichi complex. Two workers who were exposed to radiation last week had ‘‘significant’’ skin contamination on their legs, the International Atomic Energy Agency said.

The game is tied at 13 with about 13 minutes remaining after a Barnes drive featuring a Darius Miller foul and a John Henson score from close.

Harrelson leads all scorers with six points, with Barnes close behind at five.

Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Radiation Will Spread to the Entire World

· Posted in

Radioactive substances from Fukushima nuclear power plant No1 has reached the United States and Iceland, and it is expected to spread throughout the world in two to three weeks, according to the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) on Thursday (March 24, 2011).

But the amount of radioactive subtances was too small to affect humans, said the commission, based in Vienna told the Japanese news agency Kyodo.

The Commission operates network installations of surveillance in 63 locations which spread across the world, including an installation in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan.

A senior official from the supervision department of the Commission said the figures which are scanned in Takasaki continued to go up and down and the amount of radioactive substances from the Fukushima nuclear power plant which was damaged by a major earthquake and massive tsunami on March 11, 2011, can not be said to be reduced.

Slightly radioactive substances were detected in the installation of surveillance in western California on March 18, and Iceland on Tuesday (March 22), and they estimated that the radioactive substances will reach Europe in a few days.

A number of diplomatic source from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said most Southeast Asian countries worry about the adverse impacts of the radioactive substances.

But the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of Japan said that the radioactive substances from Fukushima nuclear power plant are not expected to affect other countries, quoting from the data observed so far.

Japan is Panic with 10 times Increase in Radiation levels around the Ocean waters | Japan radiation levels march 27 | Radiation increase around ocean waters

The radiation levels increased 10 times in a day in the territorial sea or waters near Fukushima nuclear power plant, Japan. The workers at nuclear power plants are still trying to stabilize the damaged power plant.

Levels of iodine-131 contained in the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima nuclear power plant are detected 1250 times higher than the normal limit.

“This is a relatively high level,” said the official of Japan’s Nuclear Safety Agency, Hidehiko Nishiyama when releasing test results to local media on Friday (3/25). Tests conducted by the operator of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).

Regarding the impact of this radioactive, Nishiyama added, levels of radioactive reduced because spreading out to sea. Besides that, because of tidal and ocean wave, the levels will be absorbed by the seaweed and sea creatures that exist.

He also said, iodine-131 will disintegrate in eight days. So, when sea products are consumed, the radiation levels have been reduced.

“When people eat sea products, levels tend to be reduced significantly,” he explained.

And with this situation, Greenpeace also follow to monitor around the Fukushima nuclear power plant. They assess that the Japanese government tends to ignore the risk and impact of radioactive contamination.

“We must go to Fukushima to observe directly the impact of this crisis, as well as to give a number of independent views related radioactive contamination that occurred,” said the security adviser of radioactivity, Jan van de Putte.

Japan Crisis made Canon India to Withdraw from IPL 2011 | Canon may pull out IPL ads |

· Posted in ,

As the crisis in Japan deepens, Canon India, a subsidiary of the Japanese imaging and optical products major, has pressed the panic button. In a major setback to its plans, Canon India is contemplating pulling out from advertising during the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting April 8.

However, an official broadcaster of the IPL-SET Max said there is no clause which can allow for any advertiser to pull out from the tournament under any circumstances. "There is no question of any advertiser pulling out once the contract is signed. Such provisions are not part of the terms and conditions," said Rohit Gupta, president of Multi Screen Media (the parent company of SET Max).

Canon, along with other Japanese companies, has increased its advertising and marketing spends over the last one year to ramp up its presence in the country.

Sony India has launched the new S series VAIO notebooks. The S-series is slim 13.3-inch notebook, which features Sony’s latest design philosophy including a redesigned hinge mechanism and second generation Intel Sandy Bridge processors.

The series has a starting price range of Rs. 56,990 that goes up to Rs. 1,09,900.
Some of the noteworthy features include a graphics switching system powered the AMD Radeon family of graphics processors. It allows the user to switch between the onboard graphics or the dedicated graphics processor. The only issue is that the system is manual, unlike the Apple Macbook Pros system that switches graphics performance automatically depending upon the required usage.

According to Sony, the laptop has been designed for comfort and weighs just 1.71 kilo grams.  The industrial design of the notebook is top-notch with lots of aluminum used throughout the device. Though the notebook is light it does not seem fragile to hold – it actually feels pretty solid.

Sony claims the device boasts a battery life of 6-hours, which can be enhanced by another 6-hours with the purchase of a battery dock, which will retail at Rs. 9,990. The dock seamlessly fits at the bottom of the laptop providing the extra 6 hours of battery. But, it does not offer any other functionality like extra USB or display ports.

For the higher-end variants of the S-Series Sony has provided a Solid State Drive (SSD), which will come with Quick Boot functionality. Sony claims with Quick Boot the device will wake up in 17 seconds.

The laptop also features an anti-reflective 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1366×768, but unfortunately its not a full HD 1080p resolution and the display is also does not use Sony’s famed Bravia engine.

Connectivity wise the Laptop is well loaded with three USB ports, including one for USB 3.0, a HDMI port and a standard memory card reader.

The Laptop is available in black, pink, blue and silver. Previously it was only available in Black.
