The most awaited wedding of the political world took place at Kamkotishwar temple at Hanuman Ghat in Varanasi on Sunday morning.
As per the Vedic traditions, rituals began at 6.30 a.m. and were performed by Kanchi Shankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati and other priests. The ceremony continued till 8.30am.
"Both of them (Gandhi and Roy) will lead a happy life. The marriage went off very well. I have blessed the couple," Jayendra Saraswati told media.
The pre-wedding rituals (the Haldi Rasm) was performed at Kamakoti temple on Saturday evening.
Yamini, an alumni of Shantiniketan in West Bengal and Delhi's St Stephens college and a graphic designer, donned a rose pink Benarasi sari for the wedding, the sari which Varun’s grandmom Indira Gandhi gifted to Maneka on her wedding and Varun wore a silk 'kurta' and 'dhoti' with an orange 'angvastram'.
Varun Gandhi’s mother Maneka Gandhi too wore a Benarasi sari.
The guests were seated at the pandal near the temple and arrangements have been made for the live telecast of the wedding.
However, no one from Sonia Gandhi's family, including Priyanka Gandhi, attended the wedding ceremony.
The wedding reception in New Delhi, stated for March 8 has been cancelled due to the death of Varun’s maternal grandmother.
